Group Fitness

Group classes work well for clients who like to train with their partner, for people of similar abilities to themselves, or for people who just like to train in a social environment

Small Groups train together in sessions of 60 minutes duration, 5 days per week. Classes are available weekday mornings, afternoons and nights. Each session covers elements of Strength and Conditioning, Flexibility and Mobility.

Strongman

Wilkins Barbell Strongman blends Old School Strongman movements with New School programming. At Wilkins Barbell we combine Strongman training with Calisthenics, Kettlebells and traditional Barbell lifts to create an extremely effective Strength and Conditioning program.

Wilkins Barbell Strongman utilizes traditional Strongman implements such as  Axle Bars, Farmers Bars, Kegs, Sandbags and Weight Sleds. Strongman training increases real world strength. We are required to move odd objects as efficiently as possible on a daily basis, Strongman training teaches us how to do this in the safest way possible. The often awkward size and or shape of the objects we use in Strongman training tend to have less efficiency than conventional lifts with a barbell, thus challenging the neuro-muscular system in a way that a barbell can not compete with.

Wilkins Barbell Strongman classes are suitable for all age groups, Male, Female and Kids. Strongman classes are 60 minutes in duration and are scaleable to all ability levels.

School Kids Fitness – Wilkins Barbell Kids

Small groups of School Children train together weekday afternoons from 4pm. All aspects of fitness are addressed, including Strength, Conditioning and Flexibility/ Mobility. Wilkins Barbell Kids program helps to greatly improve Strength and Body Awareness which results in a dramatic enhancement of Co-ordination and Agility. When these elements are combined they have great potential for injury prevention and also result in increased self confidence levels.

Wilkins Barbell Kids program combines Body weight Calisthenics, Gymnastics, Weight Training, Sprinting, Running and Jumping to develop a capacity of General Physical Fitness, with additional focus on elements to encourage bone density and vestibular system development. Children and Teenagers have a great opportunity to maximise their physical skills when exposed to this stimulus during years of peak development. These elements are combined to keep children engaged and entertained while teaching them proper movement mechanics and creating a broad athletic foundation.

Wilkins Barbell Kids classes are 60 minutes in duration and are held 5 days per week.

Older Adults Fitness Classes

Wilkins Barbell Older Adults classes are held Weekday mornings.
Muscle does not know age and is constantly rebuilding itself, but like all things, if you don’t use it , you lose it. At Wilkins Barbell we provide Strength Training to maintain and improve quality of life.

There is no reason Older Adults can not be stronger, more mobile and more able to go about their daily activities. With the implementation of a Strength Training and Flexibility/ Mobility program this is an achievable goal. There are many benefits that can be had for Older Adults from participating in Physical Activity. Resistance Training can:

  • Reduce Blood Pressure, which can result in a reduced risk of stroke and coronary heart disease.
  • Increase Bone Mineral Density, the weight bearing activity in resistance training improves bone health and reduces the risk of Osteoporosis.
  • Improve Glucose Tolerance, favourable changes in glucose tolerance and insulin resistance are observed after physical activity.
  • Reduced Lower Back Pain, increased strength and cross sectional area of the vertebral muscles reduce lower back pain by maintaining muscle balance.
  • Improve Blood Lipids, Resistance training has beneficial effects on blood lipid profiles, including lower total cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations.
  • Improve Body Composition, increased lean tissue mass, metabolic rate and daily expenditure result in body fat reductions.
  • Improves Balance.
  • Reduces Risk of Losing Mobility.
  • Alleviates Symptoms of Moderate Depression.
